Deco in Delhi
Deco in Delhi is a digital Art Deco archive, dedicated to preserving the last vestiges of Delhi's Art Deco heritage. The initiative aims to document the style's adaptation within the city before it vanishes entirely.
Art Deco was a movement that emerged in France in the 1920s and gained worldwide recognition. Art Deco is the name given to the 'modern', not modernist, style that came to worldwide prominence in the inter-war years and left its mark on nearly every visual medium, from fine art, architecture, and interior design, to fashion and textiles, film, and photography. The style spread in India during the 1930s and 1940s.
The custom typography draws inspiration from the art deco type design of the time, more specifically the "New Typography" movement of the era, which was heavily influenced by avant-garde art movements. This movement emphasized the clarity of basic geometric forms and a rejection of ornamentation. The logotype uses basic geometry to carve out the letters with a vertical emphasis created using tall thin design of the letters, a typographic characteristic seen heavily at the time.
